Adverbs Ending in -mente

The Spanish Equivalent of “-ly”

In Spanish, the suffix -mente forms many adverbs of manner from adjectives. It is very common in formal writing, explanations, and clear spoken Spanish.

How to Form Them

Add -mente to the feminine singular form of the adjective. If the adjective has only one form, add -mente directly.

rápido rápida + mente

claro clara + mente
claramente

fácil + mente

Accent rule: if the adjective has an accent, the adverb keeps it: fácil → fácilmente, rápida → rápidamente.
